Workout Tips For Acne

Workout Tips For Acne.jpg

Many of our Acne clients are student athletes, participate in CrossFit, or workout daily.  While sweat can definitely contribute to acne, don't let your fear of a breakout stop you from working out.  Here are some tips to avoid aggravating your acne after a workout!

Tip #1: Remove Makeup and Fully Cleanse Before Your Workout

Removing your makeup with makeup wipes are not enough.  Fully cleansing before your workout will prevent sweat from mixing with makeup residue and clogging your pores.

Tip #2: Don’t Wipe Your Sweat, Blot Instead

Wiping away your sweat causes friction, irritates your skin, and spreads bacteria quickly across your skin.  Blot your skin gently with a clean towel instead to reduce friction, irritation, and bacteria spread.

Tip #3: Cleanse Your Skin Immediately After Your Workout

This will prevent sweat from irritating your skin and clogging your pores. If your gym doesn't have showers or it's difficult to cleanse immediately after your workout, follow the Toner Wipes tip below.

Tip #4: Make “Toner Pads” For Your Gym Bag

Pre-moisten a few cotton rounds with your toner, and store them in a plastic bag in your gym bag. If you aren't able to cleanse your skin immediately after your workout, swipe your skin with the Toner Pads to remove sweat until you can fully cleanse your skin at home.

Tip #5: Protect Your Skin While Swimming

Chlorine contains iodides, which is very pore-clogging and skin irritating.  Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor to your face before swimming in a chlorinated pool to prevent the chlorine from aggravating your acne.
